Cute Ways to Decorate a Nursery

    Themes

    • A cute way to decorate a nursery is to choose a theme. Themes can range from anything from nursery rhymes and fairy tales to animals, the alphabet or numbers. Examples of a nursery rhyme-themed room are "Humpty Dumpty" and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Fairy tale themes include "Three Little Pigs" and "Rapunzel." Animal themes include baby farm animals, circus animals, jungle animals or zoo animals. Likewise, you can mix and match the alphabet and numbers theme in your nursery.

    Colors

    • A simple way to create a cute nursery is in the combination of colors that you use. Most nurseries use white or beige, gender-specific colors such as blue and pink or gender-neutral colors such as green and yellow. Instead of using one of these colors, combine colors using color schemes, such as the complementary color scheme, analogous color scheme or split-complementary color scheme. The complementary color scheme makes use of colors, such as pink and mint green, that are opposite each other on the color wheel. The analogous color scheme makes use of colors that are beside each other on the color wheel, like mint, powder blue and lilac. Mint, salmon and lilac, which are split-complementary colors, are a base color and the two colors adjacent to its complementary.

    Furniture

    • Choose furniture made specifically for a nursery to create a cute room. Instead of a crib, choose a bassinet. Decorate a toy chest, bookcase and changing table. Use smaller-scaled furniture, such as slipcovered or upholstered chairs, some of which are personalized with your baby's name or initials, and ottomans. Animal-shaped bean bags and dressers in pastel colors also help to create a cute nursery.

    Accessories

    • A cute idea is to decorate your nursery using storage baskets lined with solid pastel or printed fabrics. Display booties and a rattle in a shadow box. Cute accessories for a nursery are an animal- or flower-shaped area rug, animal or floral ceramic or glass knobs for drawers, mobiles and your baby's framed hand and footprints. Decorate with other cute accessories, such as piggy banks and decorative wall hooks.
