Historic Hotels in Laguna Beach, California

    • Laguna Beach is a coastal city in Orange County, California. In the early 20th century, it became the dwelling place of many artists, who drew inspiration for their paintings from the scenic landscape. Later, movie stars also succumbed to its charms. It has become a resort area, and several historic hotels offer their services to the general public.

    La Casa del Camino

    • La Casa del Camino has enjoyed popularity and prestige since its founding in the late 1920s. It has enjoyed the patronage of such movie stars as Humphrey Bogart, and served as the setting in such movies as "All's Quiet on the Western Front." Imaginative designs adorn many of the suites, such as a surfing scene in imaginative three dimensional art or a colorful headboard made of recycled athletic shoes. Another accommodation available to the guests is a more elaborate dwelling: a cottage called "La Casita." Like many of the rooms in Hotel del Camino, La Casita enjoys a view of the ocean. Casa del Camino offers food and diversion at its restaurant and bar. Craig Connole, a highly regarded chef, is in charge of the operation. The hotel places a spa and fitness facilities at the disposal of its guests.

    Casa Laguna Inn

    • The Casa Laguna Inn was not built until the third decade of the 20th century, but its architecture reflects the era when the Spanish were constructing mission stations along the coast of southern California. Accordingly, Casa Laguna has a Spanish-style mission house, where guests are served breakfast. The mission house is also a favorite spot for evening refreshments. Majestic palms and colorful bougainvilleas add to the beauty of the hotel grounds, and there are secluded patios where guests may enjoy the ambience at leisure. Some of the clean, tidy rooms offer an ocean view; others face the equally scenic courtyard. In 2009, the readers of the Orange County Register rated Casa Laguna as the second-best bed and breakfast in the county and the best in Laguna Beach. It has also gained gold and silver medals in a contest called the Inn-credible Breakfast Cook-off, according to the Orange County Register.

    Hotel Laguna

    • The chief virtue of the Hotel Laguna is its location. It is next to the ocean and close to the art galleries and shops. A hotel has occupied its site since 1889. The first of these hotels lasted till 1928, and the present Hotel Laguna was constructed on the same site soon thereafter. The hotel grounds feature a beautiful rose garden, which is visible from some of the rooms. It has a private beach, and furnishes guests with beach equipment. Its terrace is ideal for lounging or eating breakfast or lunch. For the evening meal, an elegant restaurant is available. It also features a bar with live entertainment. Facilities are available for weddings and other celebrations.
