- 1). Make a list of requirements that the potential roommate will need and what you won't accept. Decide whether you can deal with a smoker, someone with fluctuating work hours and a neat freak or total slob.
- 2). Write out an ad that describes yourself, what your looking for and how much you can pay. The ad should be detailed enough to tell your situation briefly, yet without some details to gain the curiosity of your potential housemate.
- 3). Look for a website portal that offers roommate search capabilities. Websites such as craigslist.com and roommates.com offer an assortment of ads to peruse and also offer free posting.
- 4). Write down the contact info for the ads you have chosen. Be sure to write down phone numbers and email address beside each name you jot down. Add a bit of identifying info to distinguish each ad and to avoid mixing up pertinent details such as rental amount and locations.
- 5). Schedule a time to visit each potential roommate in a public place such as a coffee house. Have a casual conversation while working in the details you are seeking about the person. This should all be completed before actually visiting the home where you will both live.
