- 1). Filter tap water to remove any contaminants that can imbue drinks with tinges of metal. Choose a device for filtering water that is specially designed for the removal of metals. Options for filtering water include filtering pitchers, tap attachments, under-the-sink purifiers, or whole-home purifying systems.
- 2). Fill ice cube trays using only the filtered water. Frozen ice cubes made with tap water will eventually melt in drinks, leaving hints of metal behind.
- 3). Mix and pour drinks in non-metal containers and pitchers, such as plastic, glass or ceramic.
- 4). Pour beverages that come in cans into a glass before consuming. Drinking out of a can, because of the mouth's direct contact with the aluminum, results in a metallic taste.
- 5). Avoid the excessive consumption of beverages with caffeine, such as soda and coffee. A buildup of caffeine can also result in a lingering flavor of metal.
- 6). Increase the intake of citrus drinks, such as orange juice, to increase the flow of saliva and rinse metallic-tasting residues.
- 7). Avoid adding or consuming drinks with artificial sweeteners - many synthetic, processed sweeteners have a tinny quality.
- 8). Practice good oral hygiene to prevent the accumulation of bacteria, which can also create metallic overtones on the palate. Brush twice daily. Floss and rinse with antiseptic wash at least once daily. See a dentist for an examination and cleaning at least once a year.
