- 1). Hold the crutch under your arm with your hand gripping the handle.
- 2). Place the tip of the crutch 2 inches from the side and 7 inches in front of the shoe on the same side of the body.
- 3). Hold the crutch with your arm bent at a 20- to 30-degree angle. Ask a friend to look at the angle of your arm as you hold the crutch.
- 4). Put three fingers together and place them between the top of the crutch and your armpit. Adjust the crutch's height until the width of three fingers comfortably fits in that space.
- 5). Raise or lower the crutch by pressing the button on the bottom of the crutch in and pulling the tip out to lengthen the crutch or pushing it in to shorten the crutch's height until the button pops back out at the next notch in height.
