- 1). Open the Microsoft Word program. Click on the round Microsoft Office button. Click on "Open" and navigate to a file that you want to open. Double click on your file to open it.
- 2). Click on the "MathType" tab on the Word Ribbon. Click on "Inline" in the "Insert Equations" group to insert a MathType equation where the cursor is currently inserted. Click on "Display" to insert an equation on a new line, centered between the right and left margins.
- 3). Click on the buttons in the MathType equation editor window to add mathematical expressions to your formula. Click on the buttons in the top three rows to add common math and statistical symbols like "pi," "infinity" and "less-than" or "equal to" signs. Click on the tabs in the editor window to view common expressions and formulas for "Algebra," "Statistics," "Matrices," "Geometry" and "Trig." Use your keyboard to input variables and other information you want to add.
- 4). Click on "File." Click on "Update" to insert the equation in Word. Close the MathType equation editor window.
- 5). Click on the "Math" and "Other" menus in the "Symbols" group. Select the symbol that you want. In the "Math" and "Other" menu, you can find symbols for basic math, Greek letters, math operators (e.g. multiplication and division), arrows, negated relationships and geometry symbols.
- 6). Click on "Insert Number" in the "Equation Numbers" group to insert a reference number in your document. Click on a MathType equation in your document to select it. Click on "Insert Reference" and then double click on the reference number to connect the number with the equation.
- 1). Click on "Inline" or "Display" in the "Insert Equations" group on the MathType tab to open the equation editor window.
- 2). Click on the "Matrix templates" button in the second row of buttons. Select either a predefined graph template or click on the "Variable-size matrix or table" button near the bottom.
- 3). Type in how many rows and columns you want to have in the "Rows" and "Columns" boxes. Select "Left," "Center" or "Right" for the column alignment. Select "Top," "Baseline" or "Bottom" for the row alignment.
- 4). Add solid or dotted partition lines to the graph rows and columns by clicking between the gray in the preview screen. Select "OK" to add the graph to the equation editor window.
- 5). Click in each of the boxes on the graph or chart. Type numbers or text to place labels and scales along the bottom or side of the graph, depending on the type of scale you need for your chart. Click on "File" and then "Update" to insert the graph in your Word document.
- 1). Click on "Export Equations" in the "Publish" group. Click on "Browse" and select a folder on your computer. Click on the "File type" drop-down menu and select the format in which you want to save the equations (for example, .gif format). Click on "Whole Document" in the "Range" section. Click on "Save."
- 2). Click on the "Office" button and then click on "Save" to save the changes to the document. Click on "Save as" to save the document as a different name in a folder on your hard drive.
- 3). Click on "Publish to MathPage" in the "Publish" group if you want to create a Web page of your document. Click on "Use images (GIFS)" in the "Equations" section. Click on an Internet browser option in the "Target Browser" section. Click on "OK" and wait for MathType to create the page and open your Internet browser so that you can see it.
