Grand Teton Travel Guide

    Admission Fees

    • The admission fee for each vehicle into Grand Teton National Park is $25 for a 7-day visit. The fee also covers admission to nearby Yellowstone Park. If visitors arrive by bicycle or on foot, the price is $12. Motorcycles are charged $20. Senior citizens can buy a lifetime pass for $10 and the disabled may apply for a free Access pass. People who intend to visit many national parks may want to consider purchasing an annual pass for all parks for $80.

    Climate and Seasons

    • Grand Teton National Park—located in the town of Moose, Wyoming—boasts a relatively cool climate throughout most of the year. In the summer, temperatures typically do not exceed the high-70s. In the winter, temperatures routinely hover in the 10s and 20s. Since many visitors like to go hiking and camping, the summer, spring and fall are more popular seasons than the winter.

    Visitor Centers and Museums

    • The park has several visitor centers. The primary one—Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center—is open year-round. It features local experts, brochures and a discovery center with many interactive exhibits for children and adults. The Colter Bay Visitor Center and Indian Arts Museum is open from the late spring to the early fall and also includes a bookstore. Other smaller visitor centers are scattered throughout the park as well.

    Sights

    • Snake River is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can fish and go canoeing on the river. There are also lookout points nearby, including Oxbow Bend, that offer panoramic views and the opportunity to catch a glimpse of exotic local animals, including mountain lions and grizzly bears. Grand Teton’s Jackson Lake is a popular place for windsurfing and sailing. Many visitors like to hike its picturesque shoreline as well.

    Camping

    • There are five campgrounds and two trailer villages within the Grand Teton National Park limits. Jenny Lake campground only allows tents, while Lizard Creek Campground is for those campers without vehicles. Only Colter Bay RV Park and Flagg Ranch Campground provide utility hookups for RVs. The campgrounds are open from May or June until September or October, so visitors should plan their trips accordingly. Campground status can be checked at the visitor centers or the entrance stations. No reservations are accepted except for group camping at Colter Bay and Gros Ventre; all other sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
