- 1). Trace an oval onto a sheet of white paper that's approximately the size of your head. For example, if you hold the oval shape up to your face, it should cover your features including your eyes, nose and mouth.
- 2). Use a pair of scissors to cut out several of the oval shapes according to the number of masks you'll be making. You can recycle the scraps from the sheets of white paper.
- 3). Glue a single blank 4 by 6 inch flash card onto one side of each oval. It should be placed somewhere near the center bottom of the oval. Using craft glue, adhere two wooden craft sticks to the flash card side-by-side, creating a handle for the mask. The side that has the flashcard and wooden craft sticks on it is now the back of the mask. You'll decorate the front.
- 4). Grab a box cutter and use it to trace and punch out holes for the eyes in your mask so you can see through the paper when you hold the mask up to your face.
- 5). Use craft supplies like markers, crayons, colored pencils, stickers, stencils, glitter and faux fur to make a face that's not your own. Some ideas are to create the face of an animal, such as a tiger or zebra, make it like someone of the opposite sex or fashion your mask after a gruesome and frightening monster. If you're helping young children, make sure they are decorating the mask right side up, with the wooden craft stick handles facing down.
