- Electric dryers use fans to blow hot air around the drum. Gas dryers will periodically click and emit a whooshing sound as gas is released from the valve to burn. These noises will come and go as the air temperature in the dryer falls or reaches its peak.
- After a period of non-use, the circular support rollers underneath the drum in a dryer may develop flat sides from the weight resting on them. This results in a slight knocking until they smooth out again.
- This little item can make a lot of noise.single paper clip on black marble image by phizics from Fotolia.com
Forgotten objects can escape pockets and bounce around the inside of the metal drum, causing rattling. Smaller objects can move into the "seam"--the space between the drum and the outer frame of the machine--and cause a scraping sound. - If a rubber foot has fallen off the dryer, it will rock back and forth as clothes tumble around. This causes repeated booming.

If you hear banging, check inside the dryer to see if your clothes are knotted into a ball. Separate them to distribute the weight. - If your dryer is screeching very loudly, the drum itself could be loose and/or crooked. Consult your manual or contact a repair person.
