"One Life To Live" Fantasy Fiction - Script 30 (Part 3)
(The camera fades out and fades back in on Jack. He’s just gotten over his shock of seeing Mayor Finn cozying up with Brad, and his expression quickly transforms into fear and anger. Brad and the mayor taunt Jack with smug grins and by flashing their weapons around. Jack hard to free the ropes without being seen.)
Jack: “I knew you couldn’t pull this off by yourself, Kozinski. Why are you doing this to me, Mayor Finn?
I don’t even know you!”
Mayor Finn: “Oh, dear little Jack. I am not after YOU. But when I got the reports of Brad’s behavior, I decided to get to the bottom of it, and then I found a use for you in my master plan.”
Jack: “What plan? I can’t help you get Mr. Buchanan to like you.”
(Mayor Finn back hands him forcefully in his mouth, forcing him to topple over.)
Mayor Finn: “You demonic little wise ass! That’s probably the first time someone ever reminded you that you’re a kid who has limits with regards to your elders. Spoiled brat! Pick him up, Brad.”
(Brad complies with her instructions. Jack wiggles his mouth around to offset the sting of the blow. Blood trickles down corner f his mouth. He glares at Brad and turns back to Mayor Finn.)
Jack: “You still didn’t answer my question. What’s your master plan?”
Mayor Finn: “What makes you think you're in a position to ask any questions, Mr. Manning?”
(Jack stares at her silently, but with defiance. She chuckles.)
Finn: “Oh, what the hell? You're never gonna make it out of here to tell anyone anyway.
I want to bring down your entire family, Jack. Your parents, your great aunt, the Commissioner...all of you. You all have been buying your way out of accountability and consequences for far too long. And buying out other people's rights and entitlements right out from under them with a scribble of a check. Well...this time, there is no game of 'Name Your Price' to pay. Not this time, dearest brat. This time, everyone will pay their fair share. Brad, dear?”
Brad: “Yes, Mayor Finn?”
Mayor Finn: “While I am enjoying the thrill of holding Mr. Manning in the boiler room of the hospital right under the noses of the entire lot of snobs, we really must try and stay ahead of our risks. Give our host in the woods a call and tell him to prepare for our guest.”
Brad: “Okay.”
(He leaves as he pulls out his cell phone, and Kathleen pulls out her own cell phone.)
Finn: “Yeah, it's me. Get the truck ready. We're transporting our little package here to the guest house. Move quickly and quietly, and keep a low profile.” (Snaps her phone shut.)
Jack: “Where are you taking me now?”
Finn: “Don't worry, little Jack. It’s a much nicer place than this, and you might even recognize it. Frankly, I’m getting a thrill with the irony of it all. My host will be very effective in my plan. He has just as much invested in this as I do. Now just relax. You’ll be in your new location when you wake up.
” Jack: “What host? Who is it? What do you mean…”
(Mayor Finn quickly silences him with a handkerchief soaked in chloroform. Her two agents enter with a maintenance cart and quickly put Jack inside. After covering him with a sheet, they quickly roll the cart outside into a truck. One of the hospital janitors spots the agents wheeling the cart away and becomes suspicious, but he stays out of sight. A few seconds later, he sees Mayor Finn follow the men. He stays behind a stack of crates and peeks out just enough to see her pull out her cell phone again.)
Finn: (to other party) “Make sure that the delivery truck is open by the south exit of the parking lot. The men are bringing the package over now. Be ready for a quick transport.”
(She takes a quick look around her, and the janitor ducks quickly out of sight. She doesn’t see him when she leaves.)
Janitor: “Oh, man! What did I just get myself into?”
(He quickly races back to work as the camera fades out. The camera fades back in to Jessica in the waiting room. Viki has just put Liam to sleep, and she tells Jessica what Natalie’s doctor has said.)
Jessica: “So her eyesight is getting better? That’s wonderful!”
Viki: “She was talking to John earlier, but she told me that you are the first person she wants to see afterwards. John said it shouldn't be more than a half an hour or so.”
Jessica: (checking her watch) “Oh, good. That gives me some time to go check in on Bobby. Do you mind keeping an eye...”
Viki: “Go on, sweetheart. Your father and I can handle Ryder and Liam.”
Jessica: (smiling and kissing her cheek) “Thanks, Mom.”
(Jessica kisses Ryder then heads to Ford. She finds him asleep in a semi-sitting position, and she alarmed by the bruises on his face.)
Jessica: (talking softly, but out loud) “What the hell? Where did...” (Ford stirs awake, and smiles at her).
Ford: “Hello, angel.”
Jessica: “Hello...um, Bobby? What happened to your face? Where did you get all of those bruises from?”
Ford: “I take it you haven't heard.”
Jessica: “Heard what? What happened?”
Ford: “Brody Lovitt.”
Jessica: “Brody? Brody attacked you?”
Ford: “Yeah.”
Jessica: “What for?”
Ford: “You.”
Jessica: “Me? What do you...oh, jeez! What exactly happened, Bobby?”
Ford: “He paid me a very unexpected visit earlier to tell me that he wanted you back, and I was in the way.”
Jess: “What! Robert, I told Brody...”
Bobby: “I know, Jessica. He practically confessed that part, but I have a strong feeling that he's not taking no for an answer.”
Jessica: (angrily) “We'll see about that! Just one question, Ford.”
Ford: “What's that?”
Jessica: “How exactly did the conversation come to those?” (She points at his face).
Ford: “When I reminded him that you chose me, and that Ryder was our child, he flipped out and wailed on me.”
Jessica: “An injured man in a hospital bed. I'll take care of this once and for all. I told him that I loved YOU, Robert Ford, and I was in no way interested in recycling an old relationship.”
Ford: (chuckling) “I used that same word and he accused me of brainwashing you into saying that.”
Jessica: “That's not funny, Robert. He went too far. I'm going to straighten him out. Did he say where he was going?”
Ford: “I don't think he has a choice in where he's going. Lieutenant McBain and your uncle arrested him when my brothers told him what they saw.”
Jessica: “Wait, he did this in front of your BROTHERS? And I thought James left town?”
Ford: “My brothers walked in on him attacking me, and I was just as surprised to see James as you are to hear he's back.”
Jessica: “That's even worse, Ford. I have to put an end to his delusions. He needs to hear it from me.”
Ford: “Jessica, be careful. This guy is over the edge right now.”
Jessica: “He knows by now that I can go over the edge myself. Especially when someone tries to mess with my family.”
Ford: “I remember. Be careful anyway.”
Jessica: “I will.”
(They share a kiss and she leaves. Ford presses the nurses' call button. A nurse appears a few moments later.)
Nurse: “Yes, Mr. Ford?”
Ford: “Can you page my brothers and Rex Balsom? I need to see one of them right away.”
Nurse: “I'll page them right away. You need to rest, Mr. Ford. Your injuries have already been aggravated by the incident earlier, and before that you escaped by a miracle. You have to try to balance all of that out with some rest and recovery.”
Ford: “I was trying, Nurse, but some crazy man came charging in here with automatic flying fists.”
Nurse: “Well, we'll be keeping an eye on this room much more closely from now on. I'll try and send those pages out.”
Ford: “Thank you.”
(The nurse leaves and the camera zooms in on Ford leaning back against his pillows before fading out.)
