- 1). Fill a sink with warm water and add three or four squirts of dishwashing detergent. Choose a detergent without phosphates to ensure you do not add stains to your silver-plated silverware.
- 2). Gather the flatware near the sink but do not immerse it in the water.
- 3). Place the dishcloth in the water and use it to wash each silverware piece one at a time. Rub the soapy dishcloth over the silverware, rubbing every area to remove food. As you rub the flatware, you will also remove tarnish from the silver plating.
- 4). Rinse the silverware under warm water and dry the silverware with a towel.
- 5). Polish the silver with the silver polish and the polishing cloth. Rub a small amount of silver polish gently into the silver with the cloth and then remove the polish with the polishing cloth. Buff the silverware with a clean cloth to finish polishing it. Repeat the polishing steps whenever you see tarnish on your silverware.
- 6). Wash the flatware again after polishing to remove excess polish from the silverware.
