- 1). Paint the surface of the tray with one or two coats of the red-brown paint in a satin or eggshell finish. Allow the base coat to dry thoroughly before applying the colored glaze.
- 2). Mix the copper and orange color glazes. Mix a 50-50 mix of each paint with the neutral base glaze, making two separate glaze colors, one being copper and one being orange.
- 3). Moisten a nylon-covered scrubbing sponge to soften it up.
- 4). Spread a thin layer of copper glaze, using the foam brush, onto a separate paper plate or flat piece of cardboard.
- 5). While the glaze is still wet, pat the surface of the glaze with the scrubbing sponge and lightly pat onto the surface of the metal tray. Repeat this process until the surface is covered in a random pattern. Don't over-pat the surface, as this will limit the amount of texture.
- 6). While the copper glaze is still slightly wet, apply the orange glaze in the same way. Apply sparingly. You should be able to see the sponge's mesh texture in the orange glaze. Turn the sponge as you work to vary the texture. Allow to dry completely before use.
