How to Remove Discoloration From a Brushed Stainless Steel Tea Kettle

    • 1). Soak a soft sponge in a mixture of hot water and dish detergent. Wring out the excess liquid and wipe the kettle with the damp sponge. It's OK to wipe both with and against the grain in this case, paying special attention to the areas with discoloration. Rinse the kettle with water and pat it dry with a soft towel. If the stains are not removed with the sponge and detergent mix, continue with step 2.

    • 2). Dampen a microfiber cloth with undiluted white vinegar. Rub the discolored spots with the grain. Rinse with water and pat dry with a soft towel. For more persistent stains, continue to step 3.

    • 3). Add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water, and mix until the baking soda is completely dissolved. With a soft cloth, apply the mixture to the stain and wipe with the grain. Rinse the tea kettle and repeat if necessary.
