  If you have a cat, you will likely face cat urine on your carpet, upholstery or floors at some point. Cat urine has a strong odor that can linger if not cleaned up promptly. There is no need to go out and buy urine removal products. There are several home products that are effective at removing cat urine.
  
  

Baking Soda

• Baking soda works to absorb excess urine and helps to neutralize the odor. Dampen the area with water, then sprinkle a generous amount of the baking soda onto the spot. Let it sit for a few hours. Vacuum up the excess powder, then rinse the carpet with a rag and plain water.
  
  

White Vinegar

• Vinegar isn't just used in the kitchen. It also has a variety of uses around the house, one of which is cleaning up cat urine. Although vinegar has a strong smell, it helps to neutralize the odor of the cat urine. In addition, vinegar also sanitizes the area. Mix one quart of water with 1/2 cup of white vinegar to clean up the cat urine. Use it on hard surfaces, carpets, upholstery, bedding, mattress and most other places where you need to clean cat urine. Do not use vinegar on granite or natural stone as it can etch the surface.
  
  

Peroxide

• Hydrogen peroxide works well to remove stains from cat urine. It is important to first test the peroxide on the surface you are cleaning, as it contains mild bleaching agents and may discolor some surfaces. Mix 16 ounces of peroxide, a tablespoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of liquid dish detergent. Scrub it onto the affected area and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then, rinse with a rag and clean water.
  
  

Dish Soap

• Regular liquid dish soap mixed with cool water is effective at cleaning up cat urine, especially from hard surfaces. It can also be used on soft surfaces such as carpeting and upholstery. Scrub the surface with a rag or mop and soapy water. Rinse the area thoroughly with a rag and clean water and then dry promptly.
  
  Cat urine may not completely come out of wood and concrete surfaces, however, regardless of which product you use. It may be necessary to sand and refinish the area.
