How to Get Rid of Dog Urine Smell

Dog Urine Smell in Upholstery or Carpet

    • 1). Blot up as much of the urine as possible with paper towels.

    • 2). Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water into a spray bottle and add two tablespoons of dish soap.

    • 3). Spray the affected area with the solution and work it gently into the fibers with a clean cloth.

    • 4). Allow the area to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 5). Cover the area with baking soda to help draw the moisture out and eliminate and residual odors.

    • 6). Vacuum up the baking soda when the area is dry.

    Dog Urine Smell in Wood

    • 1). Pour three percent hydrogen peroxide onto the affected area to cover it.

    • 2). Soak a clean cloth in the hydrogen peroxide and place it directly onto the area in the wood.

    • 3). Cover the cloth with plastic wrap and place something on top of it to weight it down, such as a phone book.

    • 4). Check the progress in an hour. The cloth should begin to discolor as it draws the urine out of the wood. Replace the cloth as needed and repeat until the stain and smell are gone.

Dog Urine Smell in the Air

    • 1). Open up doors and windows to ventilate the area and force the bad air out.

    • 2). Make sure that the area is cleaned thoroughly of any remaining urine that can create more odors. Don't just try to cover the smell as it will come back unless it is tended to immediately.

    • 3). Cut up an onion and place it in a bowl of water and leave it in the room overnight. In the morning, the smells in the air will be gone.
