Sweet martini drinks are the revised way to serve up a vodka-based drink beyond adding a splash of dry vermouth and an olive or two. Sweet martinis use the vodka as the base, and from there use an assortment of individual or combination flavors to create cocktails suitable for all taste buds. Staring with 2 oz. of vodka is the best way to get your sweet martini started. Add extra ingredients to the vodka to fill a standard-size martini glass and adjust the amounts according to taste. - Using the 2 oz. rule of thumb to get the martini started, play around with seasonal summer fruits to make sweet concoctions that fit right in the menu and mood associated with warm summer months. Use plain vodka or mix things up by using an infused flavor such as pineapple, strawberry-kiwi, orange or lemon. For the fruit portion add strained puree or straight juice from summer fruits such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, pineapples, key limes or lemons. Rim glasses with sugar to make the drink even sweeter. Additional options include mixing vodka with pink lemonade or iced tea for a sweet, summery treat.
- Fall brings hearty fruits that are sweet enough to eat, and sweet enough to flavor a martini. The majority of fall flavors are intense, so using a plain vodka is a good base for fall varieties of sweet martinis. Add to the 2 oz. of vodka apple-flavored liquor or pure apple cider. Garnish fall martinis with apple slices and even the occasional cinnamon stick. Getting creative in rimming the glass could involve using fall-colored sugar or cinnamon sugar.
- Winter is when drinks should warm the body. Wintertime martinis provide their warmth through the flavors associated with the drink and the vodka itself. Mixing vodka with classic eggnog can be a holiday treat, made even more festive by rimming the glass with a mixture of sugar and nutmeg. A Christmas cookie-flavored martini can be made by mixing vanilla vodka with white chocolate liquor, Bailey's Irish cream, butterscotch schnapps and whipped cream on top. Cinnamon or peppermint schnapps or liquors could also be used with the vodka to make a spicy martini good for warming up with.
- Chocolate vodka is readily available, along with both traditional and white chocolate liquor. Mixing up a sweet, chocolate martini is easy as the flavors all just simply go together. Adding additional flavors to the drink provide for some intriguing drinks. Peppermint schnapps can be used in a chocolate martini to make a mint chocolate version. Even using strawberry schnapps in a chocolate martini makes for a drink reminiscent of chocolate-covered strawberries. Mixing ingredients such as espresso-infused vodka, straight espresso, coffee-flavored liqueur and butterscotch flavored vodka all have flavors associated with the winter holiday season.
- Exotic fruits such as lychee, passion fruit, mango and guava can make for a base to a sweet martini drink. Some fruits can be found in the produce section of grocery stores, while others come either canned or frozen. Puree the fruit and strain out any fibrous strands and seeds to produce a smooth puree. Add the puree to vodka and enjoy the flavors of locales far away.
