- 1). Lay your tortilla or pita flat on the counter. Spread the condiments or sauces to within two inches of the tortilla perimeter. Sticky sauces and condiments help adhere additional foods to the outer tortilla. Spreading these items no closer than two inches from the edge prevents unintentional seeping or leaking.
- 2). Place your filler foods around the tortilla or pita in even distribution. For example, spread the cheese slices over the surface area instead of stacking them all in the center. Choose foods that roll easily such as slices or finely chopped vegetable mixes. Avoid chunky foods whose shape doesn't roll easily, like blueberries or melon cubes.
- 3). Fold two sides of the tortilla or pita one inch inward and begin tightly rolling the tortilla so the folded edges make up the narrow ends of your tube-like creation. Stick several toothpicks through the center of your rolled tube to maintain the shape.
- 4). Slice the rolled tortilla or pita in 1-inch to 3-inch segments. Cut thicker segments for heavier fillers like meats and vegetables, and use thinner slices when the contents are less weighty and spreadable, like whipped cream, chocolate sauce and jam.
- 5). Set your pinwheel rolls aside on a tray or stack them against each other like dominoes. Insert toothpicks through the center of each pinwheel roll to ensure cohesion.
