- 1). Turn off the water supply to the faucet by turning the shut-offs under the sink all the way to the right. If there are no shut offs under the sink, shut off the main water shut-off for the entire house.
- 2). Pry off the button cap on top of the faucet handle with a screwdriver.
- 3). Remove the screw at the center of the handle and pull off the handle.
- 4). Remove the rubber washer if there is one. Use needle nose pliers to remove the horseshoe shaped retaining clip toward the base of the stem that holds it in place.
- 5). Pull the stem out using regular pliers. It may take some gentle prodding but it should pull out without too much trouble.
- 6). Install the new stem, making sure that the hole on the stem is pointing toward six o'clock. Place some general purpose grease in the hole and on the new stem before installing it.
- 7). Reassemble the faucet by reversing the process used to disassemble it and turn on the water.
