Although tradition varies from family to family, more and more couples nowadays are planning their weddings with the joint participation of the bride's family and the groom's family. So if you are the mom of the groom, you can actively participate and be involved in the wedding of your son, much like what the bride's mom is doing. There are a lot of needed planning and assistance the couple would need during their wedding preparation and it would mean a lot to your son if you could give him your emotional and of course financial support.
As part of your job list during these stages, you need to start introducing the bride to your side of the family. And also start knowing the names and relations on her side of the family.
Extend financial help to them even when they are not asking. Talk to the couple about possible assistance you can give them. Know about those expenses that are normally given to the groom. But if both the bride and groom want to share equally all the expenses in the wedding, assisting them as much as possible can be provided.
You also have to make your own guest list of relatives that you think should be invited, but you have to consult the bride first and discuss the numbers of guests. If she doesn't want to include some of your guests in your guest list because it exceeds the budget, try not to feel bad about her decision. It is still her wedding and you should always respect her decision.
Help organize some of the events such as the rehearsal dinner party, bridal shower, and engagement party. Your son would really be grateful that you are supporting him and the bride as much as you can possibly do.
Beside from being the busy mother of the groom, helping the couple as much as you can, you also have to consider on the type of gown you are going to wear. You can also discuss the type of dress and wedding jewelry that you are going to wear with the mother of the bride.
And at the time of the reception, offer help to the newly couple by helping them host the event. Greet your guests by standing in the receiving line and entertain them after by talking to as many guests and not just sitting at the reception table.
