About Battery Powered Christmas Tree Lights

    What are Battery Powered Lights?

    • Battery powered Christmas lights are unlike standard string lighting in that they have a battery pack instead of an outlet plug. The lights are run solely on the power of the batteries, which can range from double-As to Cs, depending on the brand. The battery pack cover is either snapped open or unscrewed and the batteries are inserted according to the directions on the packaging. The cover is then replaced and the lights are strung in the area desired. A switch on the battery pack or attached to the cord allows you to turn the lights on or off.

    Benefits

    • One issue that many people have with string lights is the multitude of cords lying around the house. Often, extension cords are needed to power standard string lighting. This leaves hanging cords that can be seen unless they are covered carefully with rugs or cord covers. Also, scattered extension cords are a tripping hazard. Battery powered lights do not require any electrical cords. This makes them mobile, allowing you to string the lights around movable objects.

    When to Use

    • Since battery powered Christmas lights are mobile, there really is no limit to where you can use them. Because there are no cords to trip over, this type of lighting is ideal for situations with a lot of foot traffic. This includes winter-themed parties, weddings and family get-togethers with a lot of children. Christmas Lights Etc. recommends wrapping battery powered lighting over your clothing and body for parades. Because the lights are mobile, they will move with you.

    Types

    • There are several types of battery powered Christmas lights available. Bulbs come in different colors, shapes and sizes to fit almost any type of décor in your home. Standard mini lights with pointed ends are usually available, and many companies offer items like battery operated candlestick lighting and tea lights. There are small, globe-shaped bulbs available in virtually any color and larger bulbs like C7 and C9 that are either smooth or have an icicle-like effect to them. One of the most popular types of battery powered Christmas lights are LED lights.

    Using LED Lighting

    • LED lights, or light emitting diode lights, use less energy and last longer. LED lights extend the life of your batteries because of the low amount of energy they require. LED lights are also available in standard plug-in Christmas lights. However, electrical fires can still occur due to faulty wiring in the home. With battery-powered LED lights, there is no risk of electrical fire. Also, LED lights are cool to the touch, making them safe to hang on Christmas trees and wreaths.
