When choosing a diet what do you look for? Most people who are overweight usually look for a diet that has the fewest restrictions.
They also look at a diet and figure that if they go on a low carbohydrate they will lose weight.
Dieting is a simple exercise in math.
You cut the amount of calories going in and increase the amount of calories that your body burns and you will lose weight.
How you do it is where we get in trouble.
Most people who are obese are looking for the magic pill that will allow you to eat anything and still lose weight.
Most people when asked will look to a low carbohydrate diet as the answer to their problem.
A new trend in dieting is the high protein low carb diet.
Let us take a look.
Your body need carbohydrates and in a certain percentage.
The problem with carbohydrates is that are two types of carbohydrates.
The first is the fast or bad carbs such as soda, processed foods or your snack foods.
These type of carbohydrates turn to sugar quickly and the body is now flooded with sugar in the bloodstream.
You want to avoid this especially if you are overweight as the excess weight you carry is producing toxins and your body is already working to cleanse your blood.
The second type of carbohydrates is the complex carbs and these will take longer to be broken down and used by your body.
Most diets adhere to certain ratios of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
What authors of good diets do is change these ratios to give you your choice in diets.
In most cases you can increase the amount of protein and cut back on carbohydrates to get your high protein/low carbohydrate diet.
In most cases quality beats quantity.
If you take the time to plan your meals, your snacks, your exercise program you will start to learn some of the essential do and don'ts of dieting.
Don't eat soda and snacks with processed grains and sugar.
This alone can help you lose weight without much effort.
Do eat more vegetables as these have many of the essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs.
These also will fill you up and are very high in fiber.
Fiber is something your body uses to help clean up your digestive tract and will also help absorb carbohydrates that will eventually form fat.
Do eat brown rice instead of white rice.
White rice is processed and most of the necessary qualities you want in food have been cooked or processed out.
Brown rice is both higher in fiber and has not been processed.
Do look for high fiber cereals, breads, and pastas and in a short period of time you will notice a difference in how you feel and in your weight loss.
A low carbohydrate is not for everyone and is not the only diet that will help you lose weight and keep it off.
Your body needs a certain amount of carbohydrates but these would be the complex carbohydrates and not the snacks and soda we all associate with carbohydrates.
Choose your diet carefully and not by what looks good or easy.
