- 1). Draw a small circle onto the cardstock by tracing around the lid. The circle should be at least 1 inch in diameter.
- 2). Divide the circle in half and trace a straight diameter line across the circle with a ruler. Place the cardstock on a self-healing crafting mat or a piece of cardboard and cut along the diameter line.
- 3). Divide the half-circle into eight equal segments. Begin by dividing the half circle in two, and then divide each of these segments into two equal portions. Finally, divide each quarter into two equal slices each to create eight segments.
- 4). Flip the segmented half-circle over and draw a design on the reverse side. Traditional hand-fan designs include birds, flowers and garden motifs, but at this miniature size, a looping abstract theme will read as a pastoral motif. Fill in your pencil design with markers, and allow the marker to dry thoroughly.
- 5). Turn the colored half circle over, design side down. Cut the fan into the eight sections marked earlier.
- 6). Stack the segments on top of each other and poke a hole near the pointed end of the segments. Insert a small brad into the hole and open the legs of the brad to hold the fan together.
