- 1). Gather sheets of construction paper in the colors that you would like to use for making your scarecrow.
- 2). Draw the outline of a scarecrow body onto the construction paper with a pencil. The outline should include a head, arms, torso, legs and feet. It can be any size, based on how large or small you would like your scarecrow to be.
- 3). Draw clothes for the scarecrow on construction paper with pencil. These can include a shirt, overalls, shoes and a hat. Make the clothing items' sizes such that they match the size of the scarecrow's body that you drew. For example, the hat size should be close to the size of the head, and the overalls should be the same height as that between the scarecrow's ankles and shoulders. Use the colors of construction paper according to your preferences. You could try making brown overalls, a green shirt, black shoes and a yellow hat. Draw other clothing items according to how you would like to dress your scarecrow.
- 4). Cut around the pencil lines you drew, cutting out the scarecrow's body shape and clothes. Gently erase any pencil marks that remain on the paper, taking care to not damage or discolor the construction paper. If a child is making the scarecrow, an adult may want to help him with this tedious step.
- 5). Glue the clothes onto the scarecrow body shape. Only use a small amount of glue
to prevent it from oozing out the sides of the paper. Adults can do this task for young children. - 6). Allow the glue to dry. How much time this takes depends on various factors, such as the humidity level in your home and climate.
- 7). Draw facial features on the scarecrow, including eyes, eyebrows, a nose and a mouth. You can use crayons, markers, colored pencils or pens to do this. Colored pencils might be a favorable option because you can erase any mistakes you make. If you have them, glue googly eyes onto the scarecrow's face. Get as creative as you would like to, making your scarecrow's facial expressions interesting and full of personality.
- 8). Draw added details onto the scarecrow, such as buttons on the overalls, a pattern in the shirt, lines for fingers on the hands and lines to indicate pieces of straw in the hat. Draw any other added touches you would like to include.
- 9). Embellish your scarecrow with any items you would like to add, such as pieces of straw on the hat. You might have everyday items around your house that you can use.
