College Scholarships for Parents

    Displaced Homemaker Scholarship

    • The Association on American Indian Affairs offers the Displaced Homemaker Scholarship to parents who delayed or interrupted their college education due to family responsibilities. The ideal candidate is someone in a low-wage position who plans to use a post-secondary degree to gain access to expanded career opportunities. As of 2011, renewable scholarships are offered in the amount of $1,500. You can submit a renewal application as long as you remain in good standing with your college or university.

    Project Working Mom

    • If you are interested in pursuing an online degree, you may be eligible for the Project Working Mom scholarship. This scholarship program is available to women who want to offset the cost of an online education. Project Working Mom is a scholarship program administered through eLearners. As of 2011, scholarship winners receive an award in the amount of the full cost of online tuition. Selections are based upon the response to the essay topic "Why an Online Education Is Best for Me." In addition to scholarships, the Project Working Mom program offers online resources to help parents budget their time and money while pursuing a college degree.

    Denny's Single Parent Scholarship

    • Nontraditional students are not always older parents. Single parent high school seniors can apply to receive the Denny's Single Parent Scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify. A birth certificate or other qualifying document is required to prove your single parent status. As of 2011, award amounts range between $500 and $1,500. To qualify, you must be Hispanic and have demonstrated financial need. Denny's occasionally asks applicants to participate in publicity campaigns on behalf of the scholarship program.

    Scholarships4Moms

    • Another scholarship option for parents is the Scholarships4Moms program. This scholarship award can be divided between you and a relative attending college or you can choose to keep the scholarship money for your education. As of 2011, the scholarship amount is $10,000. The Scholarships4Moms award contest chooses winners based on random selection. Men and women can complete an application online that includes personal data, career information and a short biography.
