- 1). Measure the skylight. Measure all four sides because sometimes skylights are uneven or crooked. Hold the measuring tape on the inside of the skylight rather than the outside.
- 2). Add 3 inches to the width measurements and 12 inches to the length. This will allow for a hem and a pocket for the tension rod.
- 3). Choose the fabric. Look for a white or light-colored drapery fabric. A dark color will attract the sun and heat up the drapery. If you can, find a lightweight drapery fabric. Make sure to buy enough for two pieces that fit the measurements.
- 4). Cut two pieces of fabric according to the measurements.
- 5). Pin the fabric pieces inside out along the edges. Sew the longest sides together, removing the pins a few at a time. Leave 6 inches unsewn at either end. Remove the pins when you're finished sewing the two sides.
- 6). Flip the fabric right side out. The shortest sides should be open. Sew across the long side of the fabric where the stitching ends. The 6 inches left undone from the previous step should stick out above this.
- 7). Fold the 6 inches of unsewn fabric down 1 inch, so the fabric is tucked inside. Sew 1/2 inch from the top of the fabric. The remaining pocket will hold the rod. Repeat this for the other side.
