Decorating Ideas for a 1970s Party

    Get Down and Boogie

    • You need a disco ball above a dance floor. Maybe the "Saturday Night Fever" illuminated dance floor isn't available, but you can rent a portable dance floor. Highlight the disco ball with mood lighting, a black light or a strobe light.

Find some 1970s music. Play the greatest hits from the Bee-Gees, Donna Summer and the Jackson Five. Serve drinks popular at the time, such as the Tequila Sunrise, Harvey Wallbanger and Golden Cadillac.

    Dynamite Decor

    • Bring 1970s pop culture to your event. Find some disco dancing silhouettes for the walls. Use a cardboard cutout of John Travolta from "Saturday Night Fever." Hang a Farrah Fawcett poster on the wall. Shop thrift stores for vintage album covers. Use metallic tablecloths, plates, cups and napkins. If your party takes place at home, get a shag carpet rug and bean bag chairs for guests to relax.
