About.com Rating
Luísa Maita's first solo album has captivated audiences around the world. Lero, Lero is defined by a musical complexity which is the result of the artist's lifetime exposure to a full spectrum of rhythms that include Samba, Bossa Nova, MPB, Alternative and Electronic music. On top of the different sounds, Luísa Maita's voice provides the whole album with a sensual and relaxing tone that enhances her work.
A Mix of Different Sounds
Luísa Maita grew up around music listening to traditional Brazilian rhythms and Jazz. Along with those musical influences, she later developed a taste for Alternative Pop and Electronic sounds. Her Brazilian roots are highlighted in songs like “Fulaninha,” “Desencabulada” and “Anunciou” while her later musical influences can be perceived in singles like “Um Vento Bom.”
Urban Style
Modern Brazilian music not longer finds its place around the beautiful world described in classical Bossa but rather in a metropolitan environment that nurtures new sounds with a real, sometimes harsh flavor.
Something that defines Lero, Lero is its urban style. Originally from São Paulo, Luísa Maita brings to her work her own life experience growing up in one the largest cities in the world. The city’s exhilarating vibes can be felt in “Alento,” one of the very best songs from this album.
Best Song
The success of this album has much to do with the single “Lero, Lero,” a song that pretty much represents everything this album is all about.
“Lero, Lero” combines that traditional Brazilian sound (provided through a melody dominated by guitar, cavaquinho and tamborim) with soft electronic arrangements.
The song also emphasizes Luísa Maita’s vocal talent and sensual style. The simplicity of the whole melody is the perfect scenario to fully appreciate the best side of this young singer and songwriter who wrote most of the songs for this work.
'Lero, Lero' - Bottom Line
This album fits perfectly the interest of those who want to move with the vibes that are defining modern Brazilian music. In Lero, Lero, the songs achieve a pleasant, simple sound despite their complex musical arrangements. Overall, this album is a musical treat and a good point of reference to appreciate the new sounds coming from Brazil. Luísa Maita's first musical step is a solid one.
