- 1). Seal windows with rope caulk. This comes in a roll and is a removable caulk that will not damage wood or paint. Caulk all around the inside of your leaky window to keep water from coming through. You will not be able to open the window without removing the caulk.
- 2). Replace regular windows with triple-track storm windows. Using storm windows keeps wind from driving rain against your window where it can penetrate wood and crevices.
- 3). Cover your windows with insulation film. This will keep condensation from collecting on the inside of the windows, which can penetrate your wood frames and curtains, causing mold and mildew. Insulation film is easy to apply yourself. The film attaches with double-sided tape and comes in standard window sizes. The heat from a hair dryer shrinks the plastic tightly against the window, forming a barrier against cold that causes condensation.
