How to Make Better Choices

Everything we do in life consists of making a choice.
Getting out of bed in the morning is a choice.
Going to work and performing your job duties are choices.
Paying your rent, taking changes, what car you drive, are all choices.
If you eat foods that are unhealthy knowing that you are risking heart disease by increasing your fat and cholesterol consumption and gain weight are all choices.
Getting married, staying in an unhappy marriage and having children are things that you choose to do.
Choices have consequences and sometimes the consequences are good and sometimes they are not.
There is always a choice and a resulting consequence and it is quite empowering when you realize the power you have when you exercise your ability to choose.
Would you rather leave your life to chance, perhaps on the roll of a dice? Have you ever heard anyone say, "I did not have a choice?" - no matter what the options are or how bad they may seem - there is always a choice.
For example, if you choose to go out when you should prepare for a test that is your choice.
If you fail the test you have no one to blame but yourself.
When you realize this you will be taking responsibility for your own actions.
With each choice you move farther away or closer to something, look at where the choices you make are leading your life.
When confronted with a opportunity or challenge you might ask yourself if how you choose to handle the opportunity or challenge is going to bring you closer or farther away from your goal.
When you have your answer then you choose which path to take.
Now, not all choices are going to be great - sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils but you will always have a choice, even not choosing is a choice.
You have to make better choices if you want a better life and better things.
If you want to make more money you have to make the choices that provide you with more money.
If you want a better relationship you have to make the choices to encourage a better relationship.
When you are confronted with a choice a quick and simple process will help you evaluate any situation and help you to make better choices.
When confronted with a choice, ask yourself if I do X what are the consequences - good and bad.
Or you may write down a list of pros and cons related to the choices you have to make.
You will always make bad choices if you don't stop and think about what you are choosing.
Start a habit of pausing when faced with a choice and making a mental list of the consequences of making the choice will be.
With thoughtfulness and taking ownership of your choices you will begin to make better choices and create a better life.
