Punk hairstyles are all about wild, statement hair. Not for the shy and often favored amongst teenagers and the younger generation the punk hairstyle is about expression and experimentation. Punk hair often involves creative and bright colors and hair that is styled in a way to be full of volume. Although a punk look will suit every face shape, ensure you style is suitable for your lifestyle and job if you have one. Punk hairstyles can be extreme and wild or punk-inspired that is toned down and more wearable for the average person. - The shag is a classic style which still remains fashionable today. A shag cut can be styled as low-key or outrageous as you want to make it. The shag cut consists of lots of choppy, textured, spiked layers and can be cut on shorter or longer length hair. Layers are cut throughout the entire hair and the finished result is the "just got out of bed" look. Styling of the hair is better when it has not been freshly washed and you can experiment using products such as a wax stick. This style suits those with delicate facial features or attractive eyes or good cheekbones.
- Many punk inspired styles involve the use of contrasting color such as dark roots with platinum blond hair. Punk hair is about being carefree from society's judgment so colors are often wild including hot pink, electric blue and shocking purple. Experiment with color by using different coloring techniques such as dip-dying. This involves dying only the bottom two inches of hair a contrasting color. Alternatively hair can be colored on the lower layers, in random slices or in several colors. For a less permanent look, clip in colored extensions can also be experimented with.
- A side-shaved look is something that has been spotted recently in lots of music videos and on celebrities. A side shaved look is most commonly seen on shorter-cropped styles but can also be done on longer length hair for a contrasting look. This style involves half of the head being shaved with a razor, with the rest of the hair being left as it is. The amount of hair you would like shaved is your decision and different patterns can be shaved into the section, although this should be done by a professional. Other punk shaving techniques include an "under-cut" which involves the bottom section of hair being shaved with longer hair falling over it or tied up above it.
