Exfoliating with a washcloth or loofah will also help prevent ingrown hairs by removing dead skin cells that can build up and cause inflammation.
Shave with the direction of the hair and don't press too hard with the blade. If waxing, quickly rip the strip of wax against the growth of the hair. Slow pulling can cause more irritation that may lead to ingrown hairs. Never apply lotion or alcohol after waxing because this may provoke infection.
