Relationships will suffer when desires for our addiction overcomes our bond with our family and friends.
We always see the family suffer along with the person hooked on cocaine.
Even though the suffering is totally different and the hurt comes from different directions, the pain and hurt is still there for family and friends.
Many times the children feel guilty for no reason and the spouse feels they have missed doing enough.
And this is not the case, no matter the reason, people who get started and hooked on cocaine usually do not realize the damage they are doing to others.
As their brain tells them they need that feel good feeling again and they do not have the will power to say no to self, they just dig their hole deeper.
No one sets out on the course to be dependent, or addicted, and does not intentionally set out to harm family and friends.
The desire is so strong to feel that high again that it overrides the common sense needed to realize the harm being done.
Sometimes that realization has to come from that loved one or friend.
Enabling them will only make it worse.
Sometimes you need to say "I'm not going to help you kill yourself" when they ask for you to assist with something which will only enable them.
It will often open the conversation to their realization of the damage they are doing to themselves and their loved ones.
There is an emotional bottom needed at some point in time, for the realization to hit, that it is time for a change.
The sad thing about cocaine addiction is that is not only affects the user but it also usually directly affects three to five loved ones.
The emotional toll on them is just as great as on the user.
If you are hooked on cocaine, look around yourself at the damage you are doing.
If you want to self destruct OK, but why do you want to hurt others that you supposedly love?
