Dealing With Groups in Schools

Making friends and socializing in school is one of the important activity which is a part of the child's development.
Fitting with peers is vital.
It also becomes a little difficult at times, when peers do not allow you to be a part of their group.
It becomes important for the child to be accepted in their peer group.
There are many reasons as to why a group is formed.
Groups are formed by students who share a similar interest, purpose, patterns of behavior to ethnicity.
New York University Child Study Center (NYUCSC), found that there are hierarchies of groups in schools, ranging from popular kids, brains, book worms, druggies and freaks to name a few.
Becoming a part of the group makes the students/kids to behave in a way that they would not otherwise.
Not being part of the group or not being allowed into the group can cause emotional distress.
Family and teachers can lend a supporting hand to kids who are being targeted or ignored by a group.
The following advice is for kids who are being targeted/ignored by groups.
1.
Find friends: You will find that there are many other students outside that particular group.
You can focus on making friends with them.
Be open-minded and do not discriminate people based on their looks or ethnicity.
2.
Speak up: If your group of friends are trying to ignore others, be bold to voice your opinion.
There are times, when your group would want to leave you out and move ahead, so be prepared and do not think too much about it.
3.
Invite a friend: If you would like to be friends with someone from a particular group, invite them to do an activity with you, outside the group.
This will make them realize that it was silly on their part to be partial and not include new people in the group.
4.
Do not take the blame: It is but natural to feel bad not being accepted as a part of a group.
Do not blame yourself for not being accepted.
It is not your fault.
Making friends is easy.
You just need to take a small step forward.
Also, there are many others who also deserve to be friends with you, so keep an open mind and welcome them with a warm heart.
