These public festivals are celebrated with food and drink, mostly beer. No matter what time of year you visit Germany, there is certain to be a celebration going on. - Fasching, also known as carnival in Germany, is celebrated during the month of February. Nearly every German city celebrates with parties, pageants and parades. A carnival king and queen are crowned. Participants wear silly costumes and act crazy. Some of the most favored cities for Fasching are Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Aachen.
- Oktoberfest is one of Germany's most famous festivals. It is especially popular in Munich, where the festivities open with a parade filled with horse-drawn carriages, waitresses on floats and beer tent bands. Beer plays a major role in this festival. Many visitors go to Germany during Oktoberfest to taste the beers made especially for this occasion. The festival begins during the last two weeks of September and finishes during the first week of October.
