Crafts Using Empty Paint Cans

    Planter

    • Craft the outsides of various sizes of aluminum cans in several different colored paints and create a rainbow plant holder. Seven cans, one for each color in the spectrum painted in a solid pattern creates an abstract visual effect. Lining all seven cans up and painting the same color in the same area on every single can is an alternate, visually fluid option. Acrylic paints and paintbrushes are necessary. Blue, indigo, red, orange, yellow, green and violet are the seven rainbow colors. Fill half-way with soil and plant seeds.

    Snowman Kit

    • Decorate the outside of your paint can with blue paint and a large tan square sticker. Cut out three white circles, small, medium and large and glue over the square. Add black felt for a top hat and coal eyes plus a dotted mouth. A pipe adds visual detail as well as an orange carrot shaped nose. Cut out a large white circle from sticker paper and affix to the outside of lid. In black permanent marker write "Snow Day Fun." Fill the can with a scarf, gloves, small rocks spray painted black for mouth and a wood carrot for nose.

    Paint-Can Cubbies

    • Sort out various family members' mail by allotting individual cans to each person. Using extra pieces of fabric in your sewing materials allows you to avoid additional expense. Otherwise, travel to a fabric store and pick out selections that speak to each person's individual taste. Wrap the fabric around the can and affix with a hot glue gun. Polyester, cotton, corduroy and velvet are all suitable materials. Remove the can handles for easy access to paper materials. This option also works to sort coupons. Affix Velcro to bottom of cans if intending to keep them stationary.

    Pregnancy Tin

    • Show a pregnant woman in your life that you treasure her and wish her a comforting pregnancy and delivery by putting together a pregnancy and labor tin. Wrap polka-dotted pastel blue, pink or green paper around the entire can and affix with glue. Add a sticker label on one side and address. On the opposite side, draw the words "labor" and "pregnancy" on paper and affix. Add ribbon on the handle. Insert slippers, sugar-free suckers, a journal and pen, electric massager and pregnancy magazines inside the can.
