- 1). Speak to your attorney or public defender. Let your lawyer know that you want your felony reduced.
- 2). Have your attorney talk to the prosecutor to negotiate a reduction in charges.
- 3). Listen closely to the deal presented to you. You will most likely have to plead guilty to a lesser charge for the felony to be dropped.
- 4). Ask questions. Make sure you understand the deal, the possible sentence and any future consequences. If you don't like the deal, don't take it. Your attorney can always try to negotiate another one.
- 5). Attend court. If you accepted the deal, the plea bargain will then be presented to the judge in court. The judge will make sure that you knowingly and voluntarily waived your rights and that there is a factual basis for you pleading guilty before accepting the plea bargain.
