- Modern kissing balls are created by poking the stems of natural or silk flowers into the surface of a floral foam ball. Oftentimes, ribbons or streamers are also added to give the pomander a fuller look. This is done either by tying lengths of ribbon to several floral stems or by pinning a large ribbon to the bottom. Lastly, kissing balls are held up by a loop of ribbon pinned into the top, which either acts as a handle or a way to suspend the pomander from a hook.
