How to Design Your Own T-Shirt Using Your Printer

    • 1). Upload a picture from your computer's memory or find one online you want use for your design. If you are artistic, draw a custom design onto blank paper and scan it to your computer or use photo editing software to create a design on the computer.

    • 2). Select the printer preferences box located on the print screen. Within the box, select the option to “flip, rotate or mirror” the image. This reverses the image onto the transfer paper so it looks correct on the shirt.

    • 3). Insert the transfer paper into the printer and press “Print.”

    • 4). Lay the shirt on an ironing board and smooth out any wrinkles. Heat the iron to the hottest setting that does not steam, typically cotton. Glide the iron over the shirt to remove heavy wrinkles and to prepare the shirt fibers for bonding.

    • 5). Position the transfer over the shirt and remove the protective backing. Press down on the transfer to begin the bonding process.

    • 6). Press the iron gently down onto the center of the transfer and hold for five seconds. Pick the iron up, move to a different area and press downward for five seconds. Always pick the iron straight up and press straight down; repeat this process throughout the entire transfer

    • 7). Glide the iron over the transfer in 15- to 20-second intervals for one to two minutes. Press downward slightly around the edges to ensure they are bonded entirely.

    • 8). Test the edge of the transfer with your fingernail to see if it is bonded to the fabric. If so, then pull the backing off the transfer.
