- 1). Plug the Kenmore Elite washing machine into a grounded, 120 volt, 3-prong outlet. Test the outlet with another appliance or a circuit tester if the washing machine doesn't run. Reset or replace circuit breakers or fuses as needed.
- 2). Clean the drain pump filter if the washer drains water slowly, not at all or if there is an “OE” error code. Open the drain pump filter door on the lower portion of the front panel and unscrew the filter door. Pull out the drain filter and pour the water into a container, then clean out the filter and the filter housing. Return the filter, close the cap and shut the access panel. Place towels under the drain hose in the rear of the washing machine and disconnect the drain hose, clean out and shake the hose firmly to remove clogs, and reconnect the hose. Be sure the hose is not kinked.
- 3). Turn on both water taps behind the washing machine completely if water does not fill the washer or the error code “IE” appears. Put down towels under the water hoses and disconnect both. Shake each hose out. Use a soft brush to clean the inlet filter screens for each hose and reconnect each hose. Be sure there are no kinks in the hoses. Close the washing machine lid, as the unit will not fill with water when the lid is raised. Run water elsewhere in the house to ensure that the household water pressure is sufficient. Contact a plumber with any concerns about water pressure levels.
- 4). Open and close the top lid firmly if the error code “dE” or “dL”appears and push the “Start” button to start the washing machine after choosing a wash cycle. Note that there may be a slight pause before the washer starts to operate. This is normal.
- 5). Put a few more small items in if the load size is very small and the error code “UE” appears, or rearrange items inside the washer if the load size is moderate but the error code appears. Note that the washer will automatically restart the spin cycle after the “UE” error code and no further action is necessary.
- 6). Unplug the washing machine if the error code “LE” appears, which means the washer has overheated. Wait 30 minutes and reconnect the washing machine to power and restart the machine.
- 7). Follow product recommendations for the amount of high efficiency (HE) detergent to use in the washing machine if the detergent does not dispense or some is left in the dispenser. Avoid placing the detergent inside the washer tub and close the drawer completely prior to starting the washer.
- 8). Lift out the bleach dispenser compartment if the compartment clogs or bleach does not dispense. Wash the compartment with soapy water and rinse well. Wipe out the compartment and reinsert it securely.
- 9). Disconnect the washer and contact Kenmore for service if the error codes “PE” or “tE” are shown or previous error codes did not clear after the troubleshooting steps were performed.
