How to Build a Catering Bar

    • 1). Put together the kitchen cabinet according to its instructions, except for the top part. Clean the kitchen cabinet and parts if you are using pieces from an old kitchen cabinet. Put the handle on the doors at an easily reachable height. Add wheels at the bottom of your kitchen cabinet to make it easier to transport and roll around.

    • 2). Make a hole in the kitchen counter to fit your bar sink. Secure your sink to the counter top and then add the counter top to your kitchen cabinet. Attach the drain pipe so it leads to a large bucket. Regularly check the bucket during the event, and empty it once it's full.

    • 3). Cut out a melamine board so it matches the back of your kitchen cabinet. Secure it to the back side of the counter for a more professional look since the guest will be facing the back side of the bar. You can make the melamine side slightly higher than your kitchen counter to give you a back board so your ingredients don't fall over the edge. Add a simple bar counter by using a wood piece that is about a foot wide and as long as your bar, which you can secure to the kitchen counter top using 1-foot tall legs on either side and in the middle.

    • 4). Add a few shelves inside the cabinet to store your glassware and bar accessories such as a shaker, drainer, bottle opener, napkins, knifes and cutting boards. Add some space for your alcohol if your bar is wide enough.

    • 5). Use a cooler to store your decorative fruits when you are bringing your supplies to the location of the event. Store ice in a separate cooler that you can simply leave close by as you are serving up the guests. Bring a small fridge if you need to keep things cool for a long period of time.

    • 6). Bring a small petty cash box along with some change. Leave the cash box in an easily reachable space while you are behind the bar. Lock it and hide it inside your bar when you have to step away for a moment.
