DEL Webb recently did a survey and found out that over 70% of Baby Boomers plan to work outside the home or with a home-based business well past the normal retirement age. Many of them are choosing to work past the age of 65 and 70, as long as they feel good, because financially they need to.
People are living to an average of 85 years old now, some even much longer. Thanks to medical gains, a 65 year old man has a 60% chance of living to age 80 and a 40% chance of reaching 85. The 85 and over has made this the fastest growing segment of the population. So, their retirement income must last them much longer than in the past generations. And Social Security isn't enough most of them are finding out. Most Baby Boomers have under saved, and health care costs are soaring. The recession has taken its toll on eveyone's nest eggs, and with interest rates so low, people aren't earning the interest on investments they once projected.
