King Size Waterbed Sheets

You took the plunge and bought a king size waterbed and frame but you now realize you need king size waterbed sheets. I thought it ridiculous that I had to by special sheets for my waterbed - in my mind a sheet was a sheet. You would think regular sheets would work but they do not and thats because the material that waterbeds are made of and the thickness (or depth) of the waterbed itself make it hard to get regular sheets to fit correctly. King size waterbed sheets are the solution.

What to look for in King Size Waterbed Sheets:

When buying sheets for you waterbed you need to keep in mind how deep the sheets are because you do not want to have to look at the ugly waterbed mattress because the sheet could not cover it. King waterbed sheets are often 84 inches in length. Standard king size sheets are only 74 inches. Waterbeds are longer than standard mattresses so it's best to specifically buy king size waterbed sheets rather than the regular ones. Most waterbed mattresses are made of materials that are slippier than a "regular" mattress. This can cause the sheets to ride up and come loose. Some waterbed sheets claim to have four pockets and what this means is that they have four elasticized corners to hold your sheet snugly to the mattress. Sheets with four corner pockets may work ok but what you really want to look for is that the sheet is elasticized all the way around. This way the sides of the sheet will be snug against the mattress which is perfect because the material that most waterbeds are made of is slippier then a "regular" mattress though soft side waterbeds alleviate some of the slippage.

Another thing that makes king size waterbed sheets unique is that the top sheet is usually attached (sewn on) to the bottom sheet. Making a waterbed is not as easy as making a "normal" bed due to the weight of a filled waterbed and also due to the wooden frames that are used. The frames make it difficult to tuck your sheets in. Also, this allows even sateen waterbed sheets not to slip off the waterbed no matter how you toss and turn on the bed.

What type of King Size Waterbed Sheets should you buy?

For me the answer to this is simple - go with Egyptian cotton sheets. Egyptian cotton is generally considered to be of the highest quality because of the length of the fibers that are used in the yarn. High thread count king size waterbed sheets should never fray and will feel silky smooth. Despite the fact that they feel fine and silky they are very durable and easy to wash.

Don't scrimp when it comes to your bedding. A king size waterbed and frame is a serious investment that should reward you with thousands of good nights sleep. Do not ruin it by using sheets that ride up and come off your bed and waking you up and then somehow you are annoyed that you bought the bed in the first place. Buy king size waterbed sheets and enjoy your new bed to the fullest.
