- When decorating the walls, you have several options. You can make the task easy on yourself and paint them all one color, such as the shade of lilac you've already picked out. Or paint lilac and purple stripes or lilac above the chair rail and purple below. Another option is to paint two walls solid lilac and two walls solid purple. Get really creative with a mural of a castle scene complete with a princess, unicorns, birds and bunnies. You can freehand a mural, use a projector to trace one onto the wall or purchase a preprinted wall mural that you simply stick to the wall.
- When selecting window treatments, go for something lavish, luxurious and fit for a princess or a palace. Lilac, pink or white sheers with a hint of sparkle are worthy of a princess as is a long, flowing scarf valance in matching fabric. Curtains or swags in lace, silk dupioni or satin are also pretty choices. Embellish plain-Jane curtains with tassels, sequins or feather boa trim.
- Princess-themed bedding is found in many mass-merchandise stores or bed and bath stores. Lilac and purple are often-used colors for little girls' rooms, so you can probably find something princess-themed within your color scheme. If you can't find just the right thing, use a combination of lilac and purple solid-color bedding, and mix in pretty throw pillows, a tulle bed skirt or a luxurious faux-fur throw. Silver lam`e is quite princess worthy and looks very pretty in a lilac and purple color scheme.
- While canopy beds are certainly very regal and appropriate for a princess room, another option is a bed crown, which is a crown-shaped plaque that hangs on the wall above the head of the bed. Fabric drapes from the bed crown around the head of the bed and down to the floor. It is a very lush, luxurious look, and the crown fits perfectly with the princess theme. Use fabric that matches the bedding or the window treatments for a coordinated look. As for the rest of the furniture, classic white Queen Anne or French Provincial styles work well as does an ornate iron bed, sleigh bed or chaise lounge.
- When selecting accessories, you can go princess all the way. Choose either formal accessories, such as a crystal chandelier or an ornately carved, gilded clock, or go the cartoon route with Disney Princess accessories. Disney offers a wide selection of accessories featuring their much-loved movie princesses, and many of these items come in colors such as pink, blue and purple that will go well in a lilac and purple room. You'll find everything from mirrors to picture frames to bookshelves and waste baskets in the Disney Princess theme.
