- 1). Remove all sequins, buttons and embellishments that could irritate your skin.
- 2). Cut off the sleeves and collar for a looser fit.
- 3). Lay the shirt flat on a table and cut off the bottom of the shirt to bare your mid-drift.
- 4). Cut a slit up the right and/or left sides of the shirt to expand the waist.
- 5). Sew along cut edges with a zig-zag stitch; this stitch will allow the seam to stretch with the fabric.
- 1). Turn the shirt into a tunic. Cut off the bottom hem of the shirt.
- 2). Put on the t-shirt. Measure the distance from the existing hem to the desired hem length, measurement A.
- 3). Take off the shirt and measure the circumference of the bottom edge, measurement B. Measure the removed hem piece for ease.
- 4). Cut a rectangular piece of fabric that is the width of measurement A and the length of measurement B. Be sure to add a 1/2 inch seam allowance on all sides.
- 5). Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew a seam with a zig-zag stitch to form a tube.
- 6). Invert the t-shirt. Slide the tube over the bottom of the t-shirt so that the right-side of the fabric is sandwiched between. Line up the edge of the shirt with the edge of the fabric.
- 7). Sew along the edge of the fabric and t-shirt twice.
- 8). Turn the t-shirt right-side out.
- 9). Sew a zig-zag stitch around the bottom of the hem to secure. Or hem the edge. Fold the raw edge up and in, 1/4 inch, twice; the second fold will encase the raw edge. Finish by sewing along the upper folded edge, the one further from the bottom of the shirt.
