The reach your messages can have allows you to create interest from all corners of the globe; quickly and easily instead of just confining you to your local area.
I have clients from all corners of the world, right down to ones in my own village, all found using social media.
The thing is the problem isn't about just getting followers.
The key is to use a strategy that will attract bona fide interested followers who are more likely to become paying customers.
If you try to attract everyone and anyone, you will just get the same crowd of spammers who are not actually interested in anything you have to say.
They just think having lots of followers or friends to quote numbers of is cool.
These people will not actually make any serious money.
You want to build a rabid crowd of followers interested in what you have to say.
Seeing you as an expert at what you do.
You do this by creating interesting original content that allows you to say your piece, so you come across as being unique and different.
Don't be afraid to be certain and challenge the status quo.
There are two main Social Media sites that believe every coach should be taking advantage of.
The secret to getting clients on Facebook is not just adding lots of friends.
The problem here is you will just end up upsetting your real friends who are not interested in coaching, or you will just add exactly the same group people as everyone who will never buy from you.
So if you just add lots of Coaches and you want to coach people with low self-esteem, this is not your target market.
What you need to do is attack the common enemy.
I just logged into my page and saw my niece has joined a group called "I bet this sausage roll can get more followers that Cheryl Cole"; sure enough it already has thousands of fans.
Think about the 2009 UK series of X-Factor.
Facebook had two massive impacts on this series.
Firstly, the cult following of JEdward.
For those that don't know just look them up on You Tube, it is real proof of the power of social media! Secondly, Rage Against The Machine getting to number one in the UK music charts to be the Christmas number one.
All the examples are of groups attacking a common enemy.
The really interesting thing here on the Rage getting to number one was actually a planned stunt.
The guy who came up with the idea didn't really care about his cause; he had just done his research.
He had just come up with an idea that got him attention.
Did you know that this was his fifth attempt to get an old classic to number one? Earlier in 2009 he got Rick Astley back into the charts using the same tactic.
The problem was the common enemy wasn't big enough on this occasion.
Who is the biggest common enemy to make in the music biz..
..
Simon Cowell of course! So who is the common enemy when it comes to your coaching business that you can attack and create a buzz around your mission? Next up is Twitter.
I love Twitter and I know many of my members actually came across me via this social media tactic.
The thing with Twitter is to be genuine.
Just post interested stuff and be yourself.
This way you will attract people actually interested in you and not just the same crowd of people as everyone else.
Remember a laser targeted follower will be interested in you and therefore be more likely to convert to being a customer.
My magic tip though is to make it easy for people to find out more about you.
Don't spam lots of links, create a nice background that subtly yet clearly guides you followers on a specific call to action you want them to take.
Perhaps send a genuine not pushy or sales style direct message stating clearly how you help people.
Make it easy for people to do what you want them to do next! (You do have a strategy running don't you?) People love to buy but hate being sold to.
Don't make people mad.
Create a buying environment for them to enjoy! Take 5 minutes now to create you Facebook and Twitter pages right now and add Social Media to your marketing mix and grow you coaching business with a flood of new clients.
You never know what new connections you might make!
