How to Make a Dreamcatcher With Yarn

    Traditional dream catcher

    • 1). Bend the basket-weaving reed into a hoop, overlapping the ends to make a circle about 5 inches in diameter. Wrap the hoop tightly with twine or yarn to secure the ends of the reed.

Use a 5-inch diameter wooden hoop in place of the reed. They can be found at a crafts shop. Wrap the hoop with yarn or twine to cover its circumference.

    • 2). Tie the twine to the hoop. Make nine half hitches around the circumference of the hoop with the twine. See how this knot is made by watching the video at; http://www.iwillknot.com/half-hitch.

Space the knots evenly, about two inches apart. Maintain tension on the twine between the knots without pulling it too tightly.

    • 3). Tie half hitches to the twine between the knots of the first round to make the second round. Repeat these round until the central web is as complete as you want it to be. Tie two knots in the end of the twine, cut the end with the scissors and trim off the excess. Weave the end with the knots neatly into your work.

    • 4). Cut four pieces of yarn each about 6 inches long. String beads and tie feathers on them. Tie the strands to the center, bottom and sides of the decorated hoop. Attach a loop of twine at the top of the hoop for a hanger.

    Children's dream catcher

    • 1). Cut out the center of the paper plate with a scissors. Leave a 2-inch rim around the outside of the plate. Punch holes in the rim around its circumferences about two inches apart using the paper punch.

    • 2). Cut a piece of yarn five or six feet long. Tie it to a hole in the rim. Take the yarn to the other side of the paper-plate hoop and stick the end through a hole. Wrap the yarn around the rim, take the yarn across the hoop to another hole and stick it through. String a bead or two on to the yarn and repeat crossing to a new hole. Tie a knot in the end of the yarn when you come to the end. Make the knot on the back side of the paper hoop so it doesn't show.

    • 3). Punch three more holes close together at the bottom of the hoop. Cut three more pieces of yarn about five inches long. Tie each piece through the holes you just made. String a few beads on each strand of yarn. Tie a feather at each end.

Draw designs on the front side of the paper hoop using the markers. Punch the last hole at the top of the completed dream catcher and thread a length of yarn through it for a hanger.
