- 1). Draw a music note shape on a piece of paper. The shape can be of one note or several connected notes. Use multiple sheets of paper if necessary. The notes should be large, between 8 to 12 inches high. Make sure the stems of the notes are wide enough to attach flowers to; the stems should be at least as wide as one of your silk flowers. Flatter flowers, such as daisies or pansies, work best for covering foam shapes.
- 2). Cut out the musical notes. Tape the cut-out shapes together if you're using eighth or sixteenth notes and you used more than one sheet of paper. If you prefer to use separate notes, such as quarter notes, no taping is necessary.
- 3). Pin the paper template onto your Styrofoam sheet using straight pins. Cut out the shape using a sharp knife.
- 4). Cut your flower stems to about 1 inch long using wire cutters. Press the flowers into the foam musical notes, covering all sides. Allow your petals to overlap to completely cover the foam, leaving the bottom of the notes uncovered so they can be attached to a wooden base.
- 5). Paint your plywood square to match your color scheme. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Alternatively, wrap fabric around the plywood and staple on the bottom.
- 6). Place the bottom of the notes on the plywood. Hammer nails through the bottom of the plywood into the notes to hold them securely to the base.
