- 1). Scoop the majority of the wheat berries into a clean, dry pail so you can easily see the bottom of your storage bin. If it is bug free, then put your wheat berries back in and reseal the bin. If you see crawling insects, then you have to clean them out.
- 2). Throw out the bug-infested wheat berries at the bottom of your original container, then wash the container with hot, soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- 3). Pour the wheat berries you originally removed from the container into large resealable bags and seal. Make sure you don't over fill the bags.
- 4). Place sealed bags upright in a freezer and freeze them for 48 to 72 hours.
- 5). Remove the frozen wheat berries from the freezer and look to see if there are any visible bugs at the bottom of the bags. Leave the bottom 2 inches of wheat berries in the bags when you pour them back into your clean storage container if there are visible dead bugs.
- 6). Place four or five bay leaves inside to deter any more bugs from taking up residence, and then seal the containers again.
