- 1). Remove about eight feet of fishing line from a roll of mono filament. Cut the line using a pair of nail clippers or scissors. Then lay the line on a table.
- 2). Attach a barrel swivel (or any kind of swivel you prefer) to one end of the leader using a surgeon's knot. Thread the line through the metal loop on the end of the swivel, then fold the line back over itself, twist the bitter end (the end of the line threaded through the swivel) around the fishing line four times. Then thread the bitter end back through the small loop formed between the bitter end and the line at the swivel loop and pull tight.
- 3). Attach a snap swivel to the other end of the leader. Again, use a surgeon's knot to attach it. Test the strength of the leader by pulling firmly on the swivel and snap. The mono filament should not slip or slide at all.
