How to Make a Fixed Lens Box Camera

    Instructions

    • 1). Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Put the empty juice box on the newspaper with the front label facing up.

    • 2). Place a frame of the 35mm film coming out of the film cartridge against the top edge of the juice box where the seam is.

    • 3). Draw a line across the top and bottom of the frame of the film with the black magic marker. Connect the sides of the two lines by drawing a vertical line between the top and bottom sides of the lines.

    • 4). Cut out the rectangular shape of the film on the juice box with the utility knife, using the black magic marker lines at the top and the bottom as guides.

    • 5). Turn the juice box over. Draw a 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch square on the juice box an inch down from the top where the seam is. Cut out the square from the juice box with the utility knife.

    • 6). Cut a 1 inch by 1 inch square of metal out of the side of the empty 12-ounce soda can with the utility knife. Discard the soda can properly.

    • 7). Put the metal square on the newspaper. Place the point of the sewing needle in the center of the metal. Push the pint of the sewing needle through the metal using the end of the black magic marker.

    • 8). Turn the metal square over. Sand the side of the metal square with the rough sandpaper. Turn the metal back over.

    • 9). Put the metal square over the hole in the juice box. Tape the sides of the metal square to the juice box with electrical tape. Turn the juice box over.

    • 10

Cut off the short leader from the 35mm film cartridge with the scissors. Tape the end of the film coming from the film cartridge to the end of the film coming from the exposed 35mm film cartridge using cellophane tape.

    • 11

Place the two 35mm film cartridges horizontally over the cut out on the empty juice box with the exposed 35mm film cartridge on the right side. Tape the sides of both of the 35mm film cartridges to the empty juice box using electrical tape.

    • 12

Cut a 2 by 3 inch rectangle out of the cardboard with the utility knife. Wrap the rectangle of cardboard in electrical tape completely.

    • 13

Place the rectangle of cardboard over the cut out on the juice box. Tape the sides of the rectangle of cardboard to the juice box with electrical tape. Tape the top of the juice box to cover the straw hole with electrical tape.

    • 14

Stand the juice box on the newspaper with the hole that is in the square of metal facing you. Tape a small piece of electrical tape over the hole.

    • 15

Insert the locker key in the bottom of the 35mm film can that is on the left side of the juice box. Wind the locker key 5 times clockwise.

    • 16

Go outdoors. Stand the fixed lens box camera you have made on a smooth surface, for example, on the sidewalk or on a bench.

    • 17

Remove the piece of electrical tape covering the hole on the square of metal to take a picture. Put the electrical tape back onto the hole after three seconds.

    • 18

Wind the 35mm film cartridge 5 times in the same manner as before to get ready to take another picture. Remove the film cartridges from your fixed focus box camera when the film can no longer be wound. Give the 35mm film cartridges to a photo shop for processing.
